I am empty and sad. Only 2 other messages shown. Was it just about our reaction to a lecture.

I find the subject intriguing and fascinating. The videos were thought provoking . I wish we could have seen them all as each one of them appears to have each a different perspective.

Watching the clip from Shawshank Redemption I became interested in the role of art in rebellion or resistance to authority. In the film art is the cause and means of resistance. Art also becomes the reason for punishment, as well as the reason the protagonist is able to survive his ordeal of 2 weeks in the hole. Is this just romanticizing the role of art or does art really possess an insurgent power? What are the factors in creating truly subversive artistic work?

I find this an essential dialogue.
The religions have not accepted science, and artists generally are more concerned with standing out than giving meaningful comment.
Thank you for providing a space where we can share our own experience.
    Graham
